The popular Search for Santa Trail will return to Newcastle city centre on Saturday 30 November. NE1 is working with Active Newcastle to invite 300 children to book their places on a festive activity trail that will take them through the city, culminating at Newcastle Cathedral where Father Christmas will be found, along with his elves. The free event was a huge success last year when it was first held, with tickets snapped up within a couple of hours of the bookings opening.

This year, the Eventbrite ticket link goes live at 10.30am on Thursday 24th October. Tickets are free and NE1 is devoting 100 tickets to local community groups with 200 available for the general public.

The Search for Santa Trail is a free seasonal activity for families with children. Two activity stations will be positioned along the route giving children the opportunity to do Christmas arts and crafts as well as play seasonal games.

The trail reaches its conclusion at Newcastle Cathedral, where Santa will be waiting with his elves to meet the Santa hunters and reward them for their efforts with a Christmas gift. Children will also be able to meet Santa to let him know what they would like for Christmas as well as enjoying a warming hot chocolate and the chance to take part in another Christmas craft activity.

The Search for Santa Trails will start at 9.30am on 30 November, with slots every twenty minutes.

The Search for Santa Trail is part of a programme of Christmas activities that NE1 will be hosting in the city centre. NE1 will be bringing back its popular, 24 Doors of Christmas which invites people behind the doors of many historic buildings throughout the city centre during advent and in the run up to Christmas Day – details of this event will be released in November.

Ben Whitfield, Head of Marketing and Events at NE1 Ltd said: “We’re delighted to be bringing NE1’s Search for Santa back to the city. It was a wonderful way to start the festive season last year with lots of happy children and a great way for young people and their families to get out and about and see more of the city, including the beautiful Newcastle Cathedral.”

Councillor John-Paul Stephenson, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and public health said:

“I am thrilled that the council is once again working alongside NE1 to bring another Search for Santa Trail to Newcastle.

“This fantastic, festive event is a great opportunity for families to take part in some fun physical activity, enjoying plenty of walking, Christmas crafts and interaction as they follow the engaging trail and search for Santa and his Elves.

“Our vibrant city centre is the perfect winter wonderland and getting active and walking is the best way to explore Newcastle this Christmas”
