Plans for Newcastle’s immensely popular Christmas Market are developing apace, with potential traders now having the opportunity to apply to be part of it this year.

Newcastle City Council is again working with Newcastle NE1 and are confident this year’s market will be the best one yet. Building on the success of last year, which saw 1.76 million visits to the market - a 28% increase on 2023, helping to contribute almost £91million to the city’s economy, this year’s market will run from Saturday 15 November until Tuesday 23 December, with the focus as always on local traders.

In addition to the market stalls on Grey Street, Grainger Street and around the Monument, this year’s market will be extended onto Nelson Street, creating not only a space for more stalls but also a natural link with the Grainger Market. Last year’s new and incredibly popular additions of the Family Festive Village on Old Eldon Square and North Pole igloo pods around the Monument will return.

Cllr Abdul Samad, Cabinet member for Culture, Music and Arts at Newcastle City Council said: “Newcastle’s Christmas Market is fast becoming one to the highlights of the city’s event calendar, attracting local, national and international visitors, and we’re confident it will soon be one of the best Christmas markets in the country.

“We want to make sure the market provides a fantastic experience for everyone that visits, offering a good mix of quality goods and things to do. And I am delighted that the focus remains on a market full of local traders, with others being drawn from our region, as we remain committed to supporting local businesses as much as we can.

“I would encourage any business interested to apply and be part of something special.”

Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive of Newcastle NE1 Ltd said: “Building on the phenomenal success of last year's Christmas market, we are continuing our work with the Council to cement Newcastle’s position as a must-visit festive destination.

“We’re proud to champion local businesses and those from the wider North East to provide a distinctive regional focus for the market and celebrate all that we have to offer.

“This is a fabulous opportunity for businesses to get involved and showcase their unique offer during the busiest time of the year, and in doing so, contribute to making Newcastle's Christmas market the best it has ever been."

This year the market will be made up of 53 market stalls, ten of which will be dedicated to stalls selling hot food. The council is expecting a large number of applications from businesses and traders after significant numbers registered their expressions of interest earlier in the year, with each to be assessed on their own merit and suitability.

Any business who wants to be part of Newcastle’s Christmas Market in 2025 should apply by completing the form at https://newcastleschristmas.com/traders. The final date for applications is Sunday 11 May.
