The dates have been set for NE1’s Newcastle Motor Show 2018. The two day event, first launched in 2015, will take place over the weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August with the grand finale, the ‘grand depart’ at 4pm on both afternoons. This year, Blackett Street in Newcastle will be pedestrianized for the event adding over 1000 sq metres of exhibition street space to what has become one of the largest, free, city centre open-air motor shows in the UK.
The event, which is now a firm fixture in Newcastle’s events diary and a key date for any car enthusiast, will cater for some of the world’s most exclusive, unique and classic cars alongside some of the latest models from leading car brands including Aston Martin, Tesla, Lexus, Lloyd BMW and Mini.
One of the major attractions in this year’s event will be the BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car. At 135,000 bhp this jet and rocket powered racecar is the world’s most powerful land vehicle. Built to beat the current world land speed record and smash the 1,000mph barrier, it will be on show in the shadow of Grey’s Monument at the Newcastle Motor Show in 2018.
Another of the major showstoppers and must-see events in this year’s schedule will be the return of the live action stunt driving by world renowned stunt driver, Paul Swift. This year Paul will perform three shows on the Saturday of the show and is expected to draw huge crowds of people keen to see the tyre burning stunt action.
Some of Newcastle’s most iconic city centre locations including Grey’s Monument, Old Eldon Square, Grey Street, and for the first time this year, Blackett Street, will all be turned into a giant, open-air motoring showroom and exhibition space with over £10 million worth of cars on the city’s streets.
Themed zones will be mapped out across the city centre dedicated to different types of vehicles and motoring, from racing cars to Land Rovers of all shapes and sizes as well as hands-on motoring themed fun and activities for all the family.
Ben Whitfield, Marketing and Events Manager at NE1 Ltd said:
“We’re so excited about this year’s event, each year it gets bigger and better and we’re gearing up to wow the crowds with the range and quality of the exhibits and the extended exhibition area with Blackett Street a key part of the action.
“A major coup is to secure the BLOODHOUND SSC and offer the people of the North-East a unique opportunity to see the world’s most powerful land vehicle here in Newcastle.
“Across the whole weekend, motoring enthusiasts and car aficionados will be blown away by the range and quality of the exhibits while family day-trippers will be entertained by the huge spectacle and the events and activities on offer in the Fan Zone. There will truly be something for everyone.”
