NE1 Ltd has teamed up with Womble Bond Dickinson to invite Commsworld, one of the UK’s leading optical core network providers, to host a business briefing for some of Newcastle’s business leaders.

The briefing to be held this Thursday, 27 June at Womble Bond Dickinson’s Quayside offices will highlight the need for Newcastle to grow, invest and give priority to its digital infrastructure in the same way as it does its transport networks. The briefing will focus on the need for investment in resilient fibre optic networks to ensure that Newcastle’s digital infrastructure is capable of supporting existing businesses and attracting new ones.

A senior team from Commsworld will explain the importance and benefits of full fibre connectivity for Newcastle’s future economic growth and survival.

Sam Reymbaut, Account Director with Commsworld and Charlie Boisseau, Chief Technology Officer, will present the firm’s upcoming plans for the North East at the event.

Adrian Waddell, Chief Executive of NE1 Ltd said:

“Newcastle can only be a truly Smart City if we build fibre optic connectivity into our digital infrastructure.  This is as important as our transport infrastructure and can only be achieved with new fibre optic cabling into every home and premises across the city.

“We are delighted to be teaming up with Womble Bond Dickinson and with Commsworld to host these business briefings.  We must future proof our digital infrastructure to allow existing businesses to grow and new ones to locate here, confident that Newcastle’s systems are suitable and have the capacity for the 21st century. Commsworld and their partners have considerable experience in this field and we're interested in hearing what they have to say.”

The tech firm has recently transformed private and dedicated internet connectivity across many of Scotland’s schools, libraries and businesses and is making  the North East its next focus area.

As a result of its recent network expansion, (where it added more than 2000kms of fibre following contracts with CityFibre and Zayo) the firm can now deliver the same level of service to organisations across the North East.

After landing roles in major council ICT contracts in Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders, Commsworld has helped to radically modernise networks in these areas – with Scotland’s two largest cities recognised globally as centres of tech and business excellence.

Thanks to that work in Edinburgh alone, 324 council owned sites including 130 schools now benefit from bandwidth in the region of 100 times faster than the UK average - and 17,000 businesses also have the opportunity to use the network.

Speaking ahead of the event, Sam Reymbaut, Account Director with Commsworld said: “What an opportunity to get in front of some of the region’s most influential business voices.

“We’re already on-net and connected to the Pulsant datacentre in Newcastle with blue-chip clients operating from the city.

“Now we want to broaden that and expand our network capabilities across the North East, spreading the associated benefits across a host of different areas.”

Commsworld’s connectivity products and services are underpinned by its optical core network while it can also help with cloud and security solutions to keep data safe and secure.
